ARCHERY

THE 1ST ANNUAL
BARONY BEYOND THE MOUNTAIN
ARCHERY CHALLENGE

What is this Archery Challenge, you ask?

In 2011, the Queen's Archery Champion was from BBM. In 2012, the King's Archery Champion was from BBM. In 2013, both the King's and Queen's Archery Champions were from BBM. Based on this, we, the archers of Barony Beyond The Mountian contend that clearly, BBM has the best archers in the Kingdom. We also believe that not only does BBM have the best individual archers, but that we have the best archers as a group as well. BBM is willing to prove it, with a contest.

Barons, Baronesses, and Seneschals of the East Kingdom, send your archers. Let them test their skills against BBM'S archers, the BEST ARCHERS IN THE KINGDOM!

With K&Q Championship only three (3) weeks away, this will not be for an individual best. It will be a team competition, to see which Barony or Shire has the best archers as a group. ALL archers present may compete. The top 5 scores from each barony/shire will be totaled, to determine each Barony's/Shire's score. The highest scoring group wins!!! This means, don't send only your Grand Master and Master Bowmen, but your Bowmen, Marksmen, and Archers too. You never know who will have a good day, and who will not, other than, of course, BBM archers having a better day than whomever else dares to challenge.

The theme for this year will be "Knights & Castles", and it will be a challenge to your skills.

Can you take down the horseman?   (60 yards, 6 arrows, untimed)
Can you hit the correct color on the shields?   (20 yards, 2 targets, 3 arrows each, 30 seconds)
How well can you score on a 48" rondel?   (50 yards, 6 arrows, untimed)
Can you hit the Archer, or will you hit only his Pavise?   (40 yards, unlimited arrows, 30 seconds)
Are you precise enough to hit a helmet?   (30 yards, 6 arrows, untimed)
Can you hit the foot knight, or will you hit his shield instead?   (30 yards, 6 arrows, 30 seconds)
Can you get all of your arrows into the tower window?   (40 yards, 6 arrows, untimed)
Do you let fly as many arrows as you can, at the shield, or go for precision?   (25 yards, unlimited arrows, 30 seconds)

Note: This target list is tentative. Targets and distances might change a bit, but you get the idea.

WHEN & WHERE WILL ALL THIS BE?

Saturday, May 10, 2014
HSC Community Center
370 Osgood Lane
New Britain, CT

If you came to the BBM Investiture in 2012, or have been to the BBM/Bergental Yule, you've been there.
For those of you who have not been there:

Take your best route to New Britain, CT, I-84 (east or west), exit 36 (Slater Rd):
At the end of the exit ramp, go straight across Slater Rd, onto Sterling St, and follow it to the far end (Corbin Ave).
Turn left. Follow Corbin Ave North, about 1/3 mile, and the entrance to the site is on your right (the entrance is actually on Corbin Ave, not Osgood Lane, go figure).

Note: If you are coming up from the southeast, on CT Routes 9 & 72, do NOT go all the way to I-84. Take Route 72 exit 7 (Corbin Ave/CT Route 375). At the end of the exit ramp, turn Right, and follow Corbin Ave north about 1 1/4 miles. Entrance in on your right.
